| | | | Welcome Welcome to kindergarten! We are busy little people right now! We have learned the rules and routines of school and now busy learning all sorts of things. At Franklin the children are encouraged to "learn by doing" and that means lots of hands-on activities. In math the children have been working on learning about numbers, patterns and symmetry. In the past few weeks we have been cutting symmetrical paper shapes, painting symmetrical pictures, making patterned macaroni noodle necklaces with dyed macaroni, learning about estimation by taking turns bringing home the "Estimation Jar" and then having our classmates guessing how many objects are inside it, etc. Each day we have time for Writer's Workshop. The children have done a great job of learning about sounding out words and using the sound-spelled words to create simple sentences. Our sentences are always illustrated with colorful, detailed pictures and the children have their own rubric to use to evaluate if their writing meets the expectations of kindergarten. Themed learning and reading instruction takes place in the morning. The kids have been working on learning to read sight words, understanding simple punctuation and sounding out simple words by combining the sounds of the letters. If you are interested in coming and visiting our classroom, please call the school and we can arrange a time for you to come! We welcome visitors and are proud to show off the great things that are happening at our school.
